The Shift

Most safety training teaches you what to do.
This teaches you how to lead.

Recognize where you are. See where you're going.

Before this program
You write the procedure. You run the audit. People comply, until you're not watching.
You know your safety systems cold. But getting others to actually care? That's the hard part.
Safety is seen as compliance. A cost center. Your voice doesn't carry in the boardroom.
You're doing good work, but the culture doesn't seem to move, no matter what you try.
Career progression feels stalled. The technical skills are there. Something else is missing.
After this program
People do the right thing when you're not there. Because they want to, not because they have to.
You know how to make people care. Coaching conversations that build genuine ownership.
Safety is seen differently because you lead differently. Your voice carries, and people lean in when you speak.
Culture starts shifting. Not because you pushed harder, but because you changed how people think and talk.
You have the something else. A credential, a capability, and a clarity about where you're going next.
Ready to make the shift?

What Changes

Six weeks. Here's what shifts.

You read a room differently
You'll see the defensiveness, the bias, the unspoken tension. And know what to do with it. Where others escalate or avoid, you create conditions where honest conversation becomes possible.
01
02
Your conversations actually move people
Not through pressure. Through coaching. Structured, purposeful conversations that shift thinking, build ownership, and produce action that sticks long after the conversation ends.
People speak up around you
You'll have the micro-habits and dialogue moves that make it safe to raise a concern, question a decision, or surface a near-miss before it becomes something worse.
03
04
You influence at a systems level
You'll stop trying to change individual behavior in isolation and start working at the level that actually moves culture, the conditions and dynamics that shape how everyone decides and acts.
Your career has a new gear
Senior roles in safety, OD, and leadership are looking for people who build culture, not just manage systems. This credential, NEBOSH-verified and built on 38 documented coaching hours, positions you as exactly that person.
05
Who It's For

This isn't only a safety program.
It's a leadership program.

Coaching-led leadership creates change in any environment where people, culture, and performance matter. If you lead, influence, or support people in high-stakes environments, this is for you.

🛠
EHS & Safety Professionals
You know safety, now you want to lead it. Move from technical expert to coaching-led strategic leader who drives culture and earns a seat at the table.
🏢
Operations & Site Leaders
You own safety outcomes on the ground. Coaching skills give you the tools to build genuine ownership across your team, where people act because they understand, not because they're told.
👥
HR & People Leaders
Culture, wellbeing, and psychological safety are inseparable from physical safety. This program bridges those worlds in a way few others do.
🌟
Coaches & L&D Professionals
Want to specialize in safety leadership? This certificate gives you the credibility, structure, and evidence-based frameworks to work meaningfully in this space.
📈
Leaders in High-Risk Industries
Mining, energy, construction, aviation, manufacturing, healthcare, any sector where safety leadership directly affects people's lives and the organization's performance.
📋
Safety Consultants & Advisors
You advise organizations on safety, but the real leverage is in how leaders think and behave. Coaching skills deepen your impact and a NEBOSH-verified ISCL certificate strengthens your offer.
The Approach

The technical skills got you here.
Coaching-led leadership takes you further.

💬
Culture changes through conversations
Safety culture doesn't change through posters and policies. It changes when leaders show up differently in every conversation, curious, open, coaching rather than correcting.
🌟
Behavior follows belief, not instruction
When you help someone understand why, when they discover it for themselves through great coaching questions, the behavior change is lasting. It becomes part of how they think, not just what they do.
📈
These are the skills that accelerate careers
The market for senior safety, OD, and leadership roles is evolving fast. Coaching-led leaders, who can influence, inspire, and create genuine change, command higher salaries and broader opportunities.

01
Week 1 · 4 hrs
Coaching-Led Safety Leadership: Scope, Stance, and Boundaries

The foundation for everything that follows. You'll learn what coaching-led safety leadership is (and is not), when to coach and when to direct, and how to select the right stance in the moment, with real scenarios and language you can use at work straight away.

Coaching-led leadership vs. advising, directing, training, and consulting
When coaching is appropriate, and when a directive stance is required
Role clarity: naming the type of conversation you're in
The Stance Selector: Coach / Guide / Challenge / Direct
Boundaries in workplace coaching, role clarity, consent, and confidentiality limits
Contracting conversations: the 30-60 second script that builds trust fast
02
Week 2 · 6 hrs
Coaching Conversations for Safety Leadership

The practical skills to structure, contract, and conduct coaching-led conversations in real safety contexts. You'll practice evidence-based frameworks and build the inquiry skills that shift conversations toward genuine ownership and learning.

Conversation structure: establishing purpose, focus, and desired outcomes
Contracting skills: purpose, roles, boundaries, and next steps
Agreeing actions and follow-up that support accountability and learning
A simple, repeatable conversation structure you can apply in real safety scenarios
Listening, summarizing, and inquiry that surface assumptions and options
Shifting conversation from directive talk into learning-focused dialogue without losing standards
03
Week 3 · 5 hrs
Decision Conditions: Defensiveness, Bias, and Sensemaking

You can't coach what you don't understand. This element gives you the behavioral and psychological foundations to work with defensiveness, reduce friction, and improve the conditions in which decisions get made.

Common defensive patterns in safety conversations and what triggers them
Practical response strategies that reduce friction and increase engagement
Maintaining progress in the face of uncertainty and competing operational demands
How attention and cognitive bias influence workplace decisions
Decision condition interventions leaders can use before, during, and after critical moments
04
Week 4 · 4 hrs
Psychological Safety, Speaking Up, and Learning

Culture changes when people feel safe enough to speak. This element gives you the micro-practices and dialogue tools to build psychological safety, strengthen speaking-up behaviors, and turn everyday work into genuine learning.

Behaviors that increase or decrease psychological safety in leader-led conversations
Micro-practices that increase speaking-up behaviors in day-to-day work
Modern learning practices that strengthen performance without adding burden
Distinguishing learning-oriented dialogue from blame-oriented dialogue
05
Week 5 · 5 hrs
Culture, Systems, Leverage, and Resistance

Safety culture doesn't change through individual conversations alone. This element gives you the systems lens and influence strategies to identify real leverage points, lead through resistance, and build lasting commitment, without coercion.

How systems, priorities, and constraints shape safety outcomes beyond individual behavior
Identifying practical leverage points leaders can influence to improve decision quality
Diagnosing sources of resistance: individual, team, and system
Influence strategies that build commitment and follow-through without coercion
06
Week 6 · 5 hrs
Applied Practice and Leadership Integration

Take everything you've built and make it operational. Not just "I can coach in a conversation", but embedding coaching-led practice into the way work actually gets done, measuring whether it's working, and communicating impact in the language leaders care about.

Applying coaching-led practice in 1:1, team, and peer settings
Facilitating coaching-led learning reviews and investigations
Defining success using observable signals, not slogans
Building a mixed-method evidence plan that holds up to scrutiny
Translating outcomes into a credible value narrative for senior leaders
Assessment preparation and certification

Credentials & Recognition

What you walk away with.

Your completion is documented and recognized. Here's exactly what each pathway awards.

🎓
ISCL Certificate
Full Certificate participants receive a jointly badged ISCL/NEBOSH certificate, co-issued by the Institute for Safety Coaching & Leadership and NEBOSH. Coaching Skills participants receive an ISCL Certificate of Completion. Both recognize real capability, not just attendance.
📱
LinkedIn Digital Badge
Both pathways award a verifiable digital badge for your LinkedIn profile, documenting your completion and the program's scope. Visible to every recruiter, colleague, and client who views your profile.
📅
CPD Documentation
A formal Certificate of Completion documenting structured learning hours. The full certificate covers 38 structured learning hours. Coaching Skills covers approximately 15. This program covers topics that are typically eligible for CPD consideration, but each professional body determines its own rules. Participants are responsible for confirming eligibility with their own body.
🌍
12-Month ISCL Membership
Full Certificate participants receive 12 months of Affiliate or Accredited Membership of the Institute for Safety Coaching & Leadership, depending on your safety qualifications. Includes access to the ISCL community, ongoing events, and resources. Full Certificate pathway only.
NEBOSH Verified · The first of its kind

This is the first and only coaching-led safety leadership program NEBOSH has verified. The full 6-week certificate has been reviewed and verified by NEBOSH against their quality standards for professional safety education. Full certificate participants receive a jointly badged ISCL/NEBOSH certificate. This is a program-level verification and does not constitute a standalone NEBOSH qualification. Completing the full 38-hour certificate also satisfies the coaching training hours for the ISCL Affiliate Safety Coach (AfSC) and Accredited Safety Coach (AcSC) designations.

CPD recognition varies by professional body and individual circumstances. IOSH, BCSP, AIHS, and most professional safety bodies accept structured training hours for CPD purposes, but ISCL cannot guarantee recognition by any specific body. Participants are responsible for confirming eligibility with their professional body before enrolling. Contact support@isclinstitute.org with questions.

Sample message to your manager
"Hi [Name], I'd like to request support for a professional development program: the Coaching-Led Safety Leadership Certificate from the Institute for Safety Coaching & Leadership. It's a 6-week, NEBOSH-verified program that builds coaching skills specifically for safety and leadership contexts. I believe it will directly improve how I lead conversations, influence culture, and contribute at a strategic level. Happy to share the full program details."
Common Questions

Everything you need to know.

Who is this program designed for?
This program is designed for anyone who leads, influences, or works in environments where safety and human performance matter, EHS and safety professionals, operations leaders, site managers, HR and people leaders, L&D professionals, coaches working in safety contexts, and anyone in a high-risk industry who wants to lead through coaching. It is not exclusively an EHS program; it is a leadership program with safety as its context.
Do I need prior coaching experience?
No. The program introduces coaching principles from the ground up and applies them directly to leadership and safety contexts. You don't need to be a coach, you need to want to lead differently.
How much time does it take each week?
Approximately 6-7 hours per week over 6 weeks: 38+ hours total. This includes structured learning, live sessions, and applied practice between sessions where you take what you've learned and use it in your real workplace. The program is designed to be intensive but focused, every hour is purposeful.
What does assessment look like?
There are three assessments, each designed around real leadership practice. The first is a 40-question multiple choice paper, straightforward, 60 minutes, 70% to pass, and you get two attempts. The second is a short written reflection (900-1,200 words) where you apply what you've learned to a real situation from your own work. The third is a 15-minute recorded conversation showing your coaching skills in action. All three are included with no extra fees and no surprise exam costs. If you're enrolling in Coaching Skills for Safety Leadership, there's no formal assessment.
Will this count toward my CPD?
It may, but we can't guarantee it. Here's what we can say honestly: the full certificate documents 38 structured learning hours, and Coaching Skills for Safety Leadership documents approximately 15 hours. Structured professional development of this kind is recognized by IOSH, BCSP, AIHS, and most professional safety bodies globally for CPD purposes. However, each body has its own rules, and recognition depends on your membership type, your country, and your specific body's requirements. ISCL provides a formal Certificate of Completion to support your CPD submission, but we recommend you confirm eligibility with your own professional body before enrolling if CPD recognition is a key factor in your decision.
What does NEBOSH verification mean exactly?
NEBOSH has reviewed and verified the full certificate program against their quality standards for occupational health and safety education. Full certificate graduates receive a jointly badged ISCL/NEBOSH certificate. This is a program-level verification, not a standalone NEBOSH qualification. The Coaching Skills pathway is not included in the NEBOSH verification.
Is this an ICF-accredited coaching program?
No. The ISCL Certificate is a professional leadership development program grounded in ICF core coaching competencies, applied specifically to safety and leadership contexts. It is not an ICF-accredited coach training program. If you are pursuing ICF credentials, this program will deepen your coaching practice but does not count toward ICF coach-specific training hours.
What is Coaching Skills for Safety Leadership and what does it include?
Coaching Skills for Safety Leadership covers the first half of the program (approximately 15 structured hours over 3 weeks) and is a complete standalone credential in coaching-led safety leadership. Students join the same program as Full Certificate students and exit after week 3 with their credential. Please note: it does not include NEBOSH program verification (full certificate only), and it does not satisfy the coaching training hours for the ISCL Affiliate Safety Coach (AfSC) and Accredited Safety Coach (AcSC) designations. It is priced at $997 and is fully stackable. Complete it first, then upgrade to the full certificate in any subsequent program.
What is the investment?
The full Coaching-Led Safety Leadership Certificate is priced at $2,497 for early access (July 2026 program) and $2,997 thereafter. A payment plan of 3 x $899 is available. The program is valued at over $8,500, based on market rates for comparable professional development, live group coaching, credentialing, and membership. Coaching Skills for Safety Leadership (the first half of the program) is available for $997 and stacks toward the full certificate. For teams of 3 or more, custom group pricing is available. Contact support@isclinstitute.org for a proposal.
Can my organization pay for me to attend?
Absolutely. Many participants have their enrollment funded through L&D or professional development budgets. We can provide a formal invoice addressed to your organization, a program overview document for internal approval, and a letter of enrollment confirmation. For teams of 3 or more, we offer custom group pricing. Contact support@isclinstitute.org and we'll support your business case from the start.
